Jewellery Valuations in Cardiff
At Christopher George Jewellers, we offer accurate, professional in-house valuations for jewellery, watches, and other precious items. Whether you need a valuation for insurance, resale, or peace of mind, our trusted service is built around expertise, transparency, and convenience.
Professional In-House Valuations
Unlike many jewellers who outsource, we perform most valuations on-site, using advanced tools and industry-approved processes. Your items are thoroughly assessed and tested using:
- GIA iD100 – To authenticate natural diamonds and detect synthetics (Laboratory-Grown) Diamonds
- Presidium Instruments – For precise gemstone measurements
- Calibrated Digital Scales – Ensuring exact weights every time
Each piece is evaluated by experienced professionals to ensure reliable, high-quality results.
Presentation Matters – Complimentary Cleaning Before Valuation
To ensure the most accurate and fair assessment, all items are professionally cleaned before being valued. This helps remove everyday build-up and surface residue, so we can clearly see and assess each piece in its best condition.
If you’d like your jewellery to look its very best beyond the valuation:
- We offer a professional cleaning and polishing service to reduce light scratches and restore shine – £25 per item when booked for Valuation
- For white gold jewellery, a full polish includes rhodium plating at a set fee of £50 per ring
These optional services can be requested when you bring your items in, and we’ll advise on what’s most suitable for each piece.
Turnaround Time
Most valuations are completed between a week to 10 days, but please allow up to two weeks, as some items require additional research or verification. If further testing is needed, or if your item must be sent to a specialist laboratory, we’ll always inform you beforehand and keep you updated throughout.
Transparent, Fair Pricing
We believe in straightforward pricing. That’s why we charge a flat fee of £75 per item for Insurance Valuation — no matter its value. (If we need to send your item to a Laboratory for further testing (treatment detection etc) it may cost an extra £75, but we will verify before sending)
No percentage-based fees
No hidden extras
No last-minute surprises
A Smarter, Digital Valuation Experience
We’ve modernised the valuation process to make it easier and more comprehensive than ever. Each item is professionally photographed as part of the documentation, giving you a complete visual and written record for insurance, resale, or personal reference. Once complete, your valuation is:
- Instantly delivered to your email inbox
- Stored in your free personal account for easy future access
- Ready to forward directly to your insurance company
No paperwork. Everything you need — in one place, right when you need it. (Printed copy can be requested at any time)
How Often Should You Update Your Valuation?
Most insurance companies recommend updating your jewellery valuations every 3–5 years to ensure they reflect current market prices. Gold, gemstones, and diamonds can fluctuate in value over time — keeping your valuation up to date ensures you remain properly covered.
